FLOWERY BRANCH - Police said human remains were discovered Sunday afternoon in a wooded area off Capitola Farm Road near Spout Springs Road in the city limits of Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch Police Chief David Spillers said investigators believe they know who the man is, but they are not releasing an identity at this point.

"We did find some documentary material on his person during the initial examination, but we have not been successful yet in notifying next of kin," said Spillers.

He said they believe the man is a person who was reported missing from the central Florida area in 2013.

Spillers said the remains were taken Sunday night to the GBI Crime Lab for analysis. At this point, cause of death is uncertain.

"We can't really say anything about it [cause of death] on way or the other. There was nothing readily apparent that would cause me a great amount of concern in terms of foul play, but I can't rule it out, either," said Spillers.

The Chief said the discovery was made at 3:20 p.m. Sunday by a resident who lived in the area.
