Hall Co. government clinic moves toward Phase II of operations

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Family Health Center has only been open for about two months, but operations are going so well, county officials are ready to expand services starting next week.

Bill Moats, Human Resources Director for Hall County, updated county commissioners Monday on progress at the clinic.

"Both the pharmacy and the clinic are ahead of expectations from the numbers we're seeing," said Moats. "Lots and lots of positive feedback from employees, retirees, dependents - I think a lot of people are seeing the savings."

Moats told commissioners that the staff had scheduled more than 500 appointments for the clinic in January and February, but more impressive than that, he said, were the number of prescriptions being processed by the pharmacy.

He said the savings has been substantial for the county because of employees who are filling prescriptions through the county pharmacy.

"About a $60,000 savings for January and a $52,000 savings for the month of February," said Moats. He said the average co-pay for prescriptions is also less, so employees are saving out-of-pocket dollars.

In light of those figures, Moats told commissioners he feels the clinic is ready to begin processing workers compensation prescriptions, starting April 1.

"We've identified a potential savings of over $18,000 when we looked at the top 10 drugs that employees on worker's comp are having filled," said Moats.

In addition, the clinic would be able to start seeing patients for worker's comp claims, if the employees choose.

Moats also told commissioners that all physicals for general new hires would be handled through the county clinic starting April 1. By May 1, Moats said physicals for public safety personnel would be handled via the government health center.
