DAHLONEGA -- The North Georgia baseball team fell to West Georgia, 7-6, Tuesday evening at Bob Stein Stadium. The Nighthawks are now 18-8 on the season.
Tyler Hutch energized the Wolves right off the bat with a leadoff homer in the top of the first. UNG would answer in the bottom frame though plating two runs on RBI singles from Travis Naraine and Tremayne Toorie, giving the Nighthawks a 2-1 lead.
West Georgia took the lead in the fourth with a two-run base hit to center by Hutch. Artemis Kadkhodaian would add three more for the Wolves on his three-run shot left center in the top of the fifth, giving UWG a 6-2 lead.
North Georgia answered the call in the bottom frame of the inning though as Toorie launched a grand slam over 420 feet to left center, evening the game up at 6-6.
It would be UWG's Garrett Hayes picking up the eventual game-winning hit with a RBI single down the left field line to score Dalton Rogers from second, just half a step before the throw reached home plate.
Neither starter factored in the decision as relievers A.J. Sunstrom (2-1) picked up the win for West Georgia while Taylor Keinat (1-1) was tagged with the loss for UNG.
Tyler Gunnin picked up his sixth save of the year for the Wolves, pitching a perfect ninth inning.
The Nighthawks now turn their attention back to conference play as they'll host No. 9 Armstrong State in a three-game series this weekend. First pitch for game one is set for 6 p.m., Friday.
