Ex-soldiers sentenced in theft of more than $2.7 million

NEWNAN, Ga. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say two former U.S. Army soldiers have been sentenced for stealing millions of dollars in government money while they were stationed in Saudi Arabia.

Authorities say 44-year-old Jasen Minter of Fayetteville, Georgia and 48-year-old Louis E. Nock of Orlando, Florida have each been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for stealing more than $2.7 million in government funds.

Authorities say Minter and Nock worked as the finance officer and deputy finance officer for the United States Military Training Mission and had access to a government bank account.

Prosecutors say the two withdrew money from the account and kept it. The theft was uncovered in a Department of Defense audit.

Both have been ordered to pay more than $2.2 million in restitution.
