DAHLONEGA -- The No. 11 North Georgia softball team claimed the Captain D's Surf & Turf Classic title with a pair of wins against McKendree (11-0, 5 Inn.) and Catawba (3-1) Monday afternoon at Hill Stadium.
The Lady Nighthawks are now 18-4 on the year.
UNG's Kim McMillan was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and was joined on the All-Tournament team by teammates Courtney Poole, Victoria Prince and Meagan May.
Game One
The Nighthawk bats came to life in the first game of the day as UNG saw a pair of home runs from Victoria Prince in the second and fourth innings, a two-run shot to right by Kim McMillan in the fourth and a grand slam by Meredith Heyer down the right field line in the fifth that gave North Georgia the 11-0 lead.
Courtney Poole picked up the win for the Nighthawks tossing 4.0 innings of shutout work, allowing only three hits while striking out six.
Game Two
North Georgia got on the board first in the Catawba game, scoring a pair of runs in the second. Prince scored Meagan May from second with a RBI single up the middle and then came in to score herself on a sacrifice fly to right from Meredith Heyer.
The Indians made it a one-run game after Carly Tysinger came in to score on a sacrifice fly to right in the top of the fourth, but UNG would answer the next inning as a May double to left center scored Jessica Finch to put UNG up 3-1.
Courtney Poole (12-1) picked up the complete game win allowing one run on four hits.
Next Up
The Nighthawks will host Lee University in a doubleheader on Wednesday with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
