AAA playoffs: No. 1 Dawson girls stunned by Laney

AUGUSTA -- No. 1 Dawson County saw its unbeaten streak and season to come an abrupt end Tuesday night in a 70-64 loss to Laney in the quarterfinals of the Class AAA girls playoffs.

The Lady Tigers led the entire first half taking an 18-14 lead after the first quarter and a 33-26 lead into halftime. But Laney used a 20-10 third quarter to grab a 46-43 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Dawson County rallied to retake the lead midway through the fourth quarter but the Lady Wildcats reclaimed the lead in the final three minutes and then hit 13 free throws in the final two minutes as Dawson County tried to get the lead back.

Dawson County coach Steve Sweat could not hide his disappointment.
