Slight gains push US stocks to record highs

By The Associated Press
The U.S. stock market is back at a record high as traders are encouraged by the latest news on interest rates, Greece and corporate earnings.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 92 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 18,209 Tuesday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index added five points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,115. The Nasdaq composite edged up seven points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,968.

The Dow and S&P 500 are at record highs, beating the marks they set Friday.

Investors liked what they heard from Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, who told Congress the Fed would be patient about raising interest rates as the economy improves.

Strong earnings from Home Depot and progress in Greece's efforts to secure an extension of its rescue loans also encouraged traders.
