North Ga. awaits next round of wintry weather

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
Unlike a week ago when the Gainesville area and other parts of north Georgia were coated with ice and trees and power lines were crashing down, today's winter weather event was a mild one. But that might change tomorrow.

The National Weather Service (NWS) this after expanded the area covered by a Winter Storm Warning tomorrow to include Gainesville, Athens and metro Atlanta. (See first link below.)

As for the burst of snow that moved through the area earlier today, Hall County Emergency Management Agency spokesman Scott Cagle says there were very little problems with travel around the county and few problems of any kind.

"Just a couple of wrecks this morning, flurries coming to an end," Cagle said about 9:00 this morning. "Fire Services didn't have to step up staffing this morning. We are now keeping an eye out for tomorrow's storm."

Snow began across north Georgia before dawn this morning as the latest winter storm struck the state.

Meanwhile, the snow was not stopping hikers on the section of the Appalachian Trail that runs through Georgia. (See second link below.)
