GAINESVILLE - Parents, if your child says they were taken to school by a police officer this morning, chances are you have nothing to worry about.
The Hall County School System dispatched its School Resource Officers (SROs) along its bus routes to make sure there weren't any stragglers in the cold who missed the bus. It was the first day of classes for Hall students since the ice storm hit Monday night.
Schools Supt. Will Schofield says the SROs did give a few kids a lift to school.
"As a matter of fact, those kids were probably picked up and got to school before their friends on the bus. If we miss a child, the child comes out to the stop...then those School Resource Officers give them a ride to school."
The school system's Website had Twitter feeds throughout the morning noting that some buses were being delayed but were running and that some were encountering "low hanging lines" along their routes. The feeds also indicate there were problems starting two buses early today but those issues were quickly resolved by mechanics and the buses began their routes.
