SEWANEE, TENNESSEE -- The Piedmont College men's track and field team hit the road for its second competition of the indoor season as they traveled to Sewanee: the University of the South for the Tiger Indoor Invitational on Saturday. Cody Parker set his second school record of the season as he ran 4:58.90 in the men's 1 mile.

The previous record at Piedmont was held by BRANDON SINGH set in 2011 at the ETSU Nisswonger Invitational where he ran a 5:11.15. Parker's time set the school record by over 12 seconds.

This marked the second school record of the season that Parker has broken as he also holds the 3000m record of 9.43.36.

"The track at Sewanee is only 160m which played into the times we ran today," Head Track & Field Coach Jeff Jenkins said. "Often on track's like these that are shorter, times are slower because there is more curve than straight."

This marked the first 1 mile for Parker this season as both he and Jason Dang competed in the men's 3000 at the season opening meet in Birmingham, Alabama at the Emory Crossplex Invitational.

Dang ran a 5:24.27 good for 18th in the 1 mile and fellow freshman Rily Passini made his collegiate track debut finishing 21st with a 5:41.88.

"We were racing for place more than time this outing and trying to teach those guys how to race," Jenkins said. "We made some mistakes, but overall they competed well against Division I and Division II competition.
