State Wrestling: Area teams have strong opening day at Traditionals

MACON -- Northeast Georgia teams had a solid first day Thursday at the Traditional State Wrestling Championships at the Macon Coliseum.<br /> <br /> Classes AAA-AAAAAA started their quests for state titles on Thursday while Classes A and A will begin on Friday.<br /> <br /> In Class AAA, Jefferson leads Lumpkin County 90.5 to 56.6 after placing seven wrestlers in the semifinals. The Indians placed five in the semifinals.<br /> <br /> <b>(NOTE: For a complete look at teams scores and individual weight-classes in Classes AAA-AAAAAA scroll down to the bottom.)</b><br /> <br /> Jackson County is in seventh with 31.5 points, and Banks County is tied for 10th with 28 points in Class AAA.<br /> <br /> In Class AAAA, three Area 8-AAAA teams are in the top 10 after the first day. Buford sits fourth at 37.5 points with North Hall right behind in fifth with 34 points. Chestatee is tied for eighth with 25.5 points.<br /> <br /> Defending champion Gilmer leads Class AAAA with 88.5 and Marist is close behind in second with 75 points.<br /> <br /> Commerce, the defending Class A champion, will get its title defense under way Friday.
