Multiple media outlets reported that Milliken & Co. said Wednesday it's closing the Judson Plant to consolidate operations in other plants.

The plant makes yarn used in other Milliken plants for flame-resistant fabrics used by manufacturing and utility workers, military personnel and emergency responders.

The company said it expects most of the Greenville workers to find jobs at six other Milliken plants in the Greenville-Spartanburg area.

Milliken said it will invest in new equipment in plants in Jonesville and Gainesville, Georgia, as part of the consolidation.
Senior vice president Chip Winter said officials will meet with each employee to determine if they want to work at another plant.

"With any openings company-wide, our Judson associates will have priority consideration and first right of refusal," Winter said in a statement.
The closing will begin in April and should be completed by fall. The Judson plant opened in 1927.
