HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The No. 9 University of North Georgia softball team split a pair of games on the final day of play at the UAH Charger Chillout, edging Delta State 11-7 before falling 2-0 to No. 12 Alabama-Huntsville. The Nighthawks leave the opening weekend event with a 5-1 ledger.<br />

GAME ONE:<br />
<br />
Delta State got the scoring started in a high-scoring affair with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a two-RBI single. The Nighthawks responded to plate four runs in the top of the second on three hits, but the Lady Statesmen cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame.<br />
<br />
With the score knotted at five, North Georgia exploded for six runs in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the win.<br />
<br />
North Georgia pounded out 15 hits as five different players tallied multiple-hit games. Meredith Heyer and Jessica Finch led the way with 2-4 performances that included a run scored and two RBI apiece.<br />
<br />
Courtney Poole (4-0) earned the win in the circle, throwing five innings of relief work. <br />

GAME TWO:<br />
<br />
In the nightcap, North Georgia's bats went cold as UA-H's Tyler Harrison (1-0) threw her second career complete game shutout, taking a no-hitter into the fourth on her way to giving up just three in the contest. The sophomore struck out two while walking just a pair.<br />
<br />
The host Chargers scored book end runs in the first and seventh innings to give North Georgia its first blemish of the season.<br />
<br />
Meagan May owned two of the Nighthawks' three hits with a pair of singles.<br />
<br />
North Georgia was the game's home team and threatened in the team's final at bat putting runners on first and second with one out, but a strikeout and line out ended the Nighthawks' chances.<br />
<br />
Ally Legette (0-1) took the loss despite allowing just four hits in seven innings of work .<br />

The Nighthawks will play their first ever game on the newly renovated artificial surface at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium on Thursday (Feb. 12) versus Miles. First pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
