Tybee Island reports record high hotel tax collections

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (AP) Tybee Island tourism officials say hotel and motel tax collections hit a record high last year. <br /> <br /> Visit Tybee Director Sara Lane tells WTOC-TV that the tourism group increased marketing, including social media and other efforts last year (http://bit.ly/16pyTW0). A recent report issued by the group found more than $865,000 in hotel and vacation rentals. <br /> <br /> A six-percent tax is charged on those expenses. <br /> <br /> Lane says she hopes more visitors will come this year thanks to recently completed work to extend the beach.
