CORNELIA - A single-vehicle wreck Sunday night left an Alto man dead and the driver facing serious charges.

Sgt. D.F. Lunsford of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa provided details.

The wreck occurred at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, and involved a 2009 silver Honda Accord that was traveling east on Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway.

"The driver failed to maintain his lane of travel," Lunsford said. "The vehicle exited the roadway to the right and traveled into a yard, where it struck a tree and a parked motor vehicle."

The parked car was unoccupied at the time of the collision.

Lunsford identified the driver of the Honda as 22-year-old Colby Dewayne Oliver of Clermont.

Oliver, who suffered injuries to his right arm, is charged with driving under the influence, first-degree homicide by vehicle, serious injury by motor vehicle, failure to maintain lane, and reckless driving, Lunsford said. Oliver was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center.

The right front passenger, 23-year-old Joshua Kesniel Thomas of Alto, suffered injuries to the chest and ribs and was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center.

Lunsford said Jimmy Sebastian Tackett, 19, of Alto was in the right rear of the vehicle and died at the scene.

Emergency personnel remained on scene until after 3 a.m. Monday.
