RABBITTOWN — Several area teams will play for holiday tournament championships on Wednesday after a successful night on the hardwood Tuesday.
It will be an all East Hall-Flowery Branch finals in the 56th annual Lanierland at the East Hall gym.
The East Hall boys survived a double-overtime thriller to beat North Hall while the Flowery Branch boys held off West Hall to set up a 7:30 p.m. matchup. The Vikings have 24 Lanierland titles but have not won the tournament since 2010. Flowery Branch has never won the tournament in its 15-year history, and has played in just one Lanierland final, in 2008.
In the girls tournament, East Hall shocked Gainesville with a 3-pointer at the buzzer while the Class AAAAA No. 3 Lady Falcons dismantled North Hall in the semifinal matchups. The Lady Vikings are looking for their first title since 2011 and Flowery Branch is looking for its first since winning its only title in 2003. They are scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, both the Dawson County boys and girls will go for tournament titles in Monroe at the Bulldog Classic at George Walton Academy.
The Lumpkin County boys will play for the Battle of the States crown against Haynesville (N.C.) after a pair of lopsided wins over teams from Tennessee and Alabama in the first two rounds.
