BOGART - A Winder man was arrested Friday on multiple charges following a confrontation with authorities during a traffic stop earlier in the week.
According to Jackson County Sheriff Janus Mangum, 33-year-old William Daniel Bauers was brought into police custody shortly after authorities obtained arrest warrents in his name sometime Friday.
Mangum said those warrants stemmed from an incident on Dec. 16th that saw Bauers interfere with Jackson County officers who were attempting to conduct a traffic stop.
While struggling with a suspect on an undisclosed roadside, officers said Bauers stopped and exited his vehicle, approaching them with what appeared to be a handgun tucked inside his waistband. Mangum said Bauers also began shouting obscenities at the officers during this encounter.
Despite several verbal warnings ordering him to leave the area, Bauers continued to hinder the officers' efforts, prompting officers to place him under arrest.
A subsequent search revealed that Bauers was in possession of a handgun as well as an unknown quantity of marijuana.
Mangum said Bauers was later transported to the Jackson County Jail, where he was booked on charges of Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime.
