GAINESVILLE — Sandra Deal said she had visited the Governor's Mansion in Atlanta numerous times, but when she and her husband Nathan became residents, she discovered how little she really knew about her home. As she began to dig a little deeper into the history of the mansion, she decided she should preserve that history in book form. The result was "Memories of the Mansion," released in September and now in its third printing.
Mrs. Deal has been touring the state, promoting the book. On Monday, December 14, she brought to the tour to the Northeast Georgia History Center in Gainesville. She was accompanied by her co-authors Jennifer Dickey and Catherine Lewis, both history professors at Kennesaw State University. The three initially shared stories with an audience of about about three dozen people, telling them how the book came to fruition. Afterward, they spent nearly two hours signing copies of the book for admirers who continued to trickle in to the History Center.
AccessWDUN's David Cook and B.J. Williams were able to catch Mrs. Deal between autographs to talk about the reason she chose to write about the Governor's Mansion.
NOTE: Proceeds from "Memories of the Mansion" benefit the non-profit Friends of the Mansion, which works to preserve the 1968 mansion on west Paces Ferry Road.
