The USA South Athletic Conference has released its Athlete of the Week listing for the week of December 14 with Piedmont women's basketball sweeping the awards as Mary Kate Rushton was named the Player of the Week and Abbey Craven taking Rookie of the Week honors.
For Rushton, the honor is the first this season while Craven takes home the first honor of her Piedmont career as the Lady Lion freshman had 15 points and six rebounds in PC's only contest of the week, a 5-point overtime win against Huntingdon in the USA South opener on Sunday.
Though the senior piled in a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, Rushton's honor as Player of the Week likely was sealed on a single shot when she connected on a game-tying three-point bucket with 13 seconds left to help Piedmont force overtime vs. the Hawks in the eventual conference win.
