North Georgia Technical College recently received a high tech ABB robotic machine donation from TI Automotive in Lavonia. The machine, an IRB 2400 ABB Robot Model 98, will benefit the Industrial Systems Program at NGTC where a robot technician class will be offered beginning fall semester in 2016.
“We have several high tech companies in our area using robotics and more coming,” said Chris Haley, NGTC industrial systems technology instructor. “ABB is one of the largest robot manufacturers in the world, and ABB is widely used in our area. We can now give our students hands-on experience with the very equipment they will be using in the field. We are certainly appreciative of TI Automotive’s donation which shows their commitment to NGTC and the IST program.”
According to NGTC Dean for Academic Affairs Dan Pressley, the robotic equipment training provides an additional area of expertise for the Industrial Systems Program students when applying for jobs.
“As robotics is increasingly used in the manufacturing process, our students are gaining more opportunities to train on such valuable donated equipment,” said Pressley. “The support that NGTC receives from local industries allows our students to be well prepared for the workforce. We are proud to partner with local industry and appreciate the support they provide to NGTC.”
