DEMOREST — The Piedmont men's basketball team trailed for the majority of the contest but had its chances in the final six minutes coming up just short in a 60-57 loss to Sewanee. The Lions had possession with 38 seconds to go off a Tiger turnover but followed suit with a turnover of their own before turning it over again on their final possession with just one second remaining on the clock.
The Lions trailed the entire game until the 5:49 mark in the second half when CHRIS MEEKS hit a pair of free throws at the line, a place the Lions had struggles, to go ahead 50-48. Sewanee led by as many as nine points while the Lions' largest lead was just two points and held that lead for under a minute.
MARQUISE LANIER helped the Lions jump back in this one with a run of his own as he hit a free throw then made a pair of back-to-back layups in the paint to cut the Tigers' lead to just two points with just over nine minutes to go.
The Tigers scored 21 points off turnovers as the Lions had 20 turnovers in the contest. Piedmont did out-rebound Sewanee bringing down 34 rebounds to the Tigers' 23 while winning the offensive rebound total as well with nine in the game.
Meeks led the way with the only double-figure game for the Lions with 11 points and 8 rebounds while CHASE ENGLAND totaled nine points. Clay Born of Sewanee led all scorers with 13 points including going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Turning Point
--Piedmont took the lead for the first time in the contest with a pair of free throws by CHRIS MEEKS with 5:49 remaining, but seven of the Tigers' final 12 points came from the free throw line.
Standout Performances
--CHRIS MEEKS led the team with 11 points and 8 rebounds including going 5-of-9 from the free thow line with five of the team's 10 points from the charity stripe.
Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont shot just 53% from the free thow line making 10-of-19 shots while the Tigers were 8-of-10 at 80%.
--The Tigers were hot from behind the arc making eight 3-pointers as Clay Born led the way with three of them.

--The Lions entered today's contest having won four straight contests against the Tigers.
