CLEVELAND - Former Gainesville Chief of Police Brian Kelly was found dead Tuesday morning.
White County Coroner Ricky Barrett said Kelly died at a home off Pink Mountain Boulevard near Cleveland.
Barrett said Kelly's parents also were home at the time of the incident, around 9 a.m.
The body has been sent to the GBI State Crime Lab for an autopsy and further investigation.
Until the results of that investigation, Barrett said he is not releasing further details about Kelly's death.
Kelly served as Police Chief from May 2010 until August 2014. Prior to that he served the force beginning in 1996.
“We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the Kelly family," said current Police Chief Carol Martin in a statement. “We offer them our thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow."
