Girls basketball: Jackson Co. shoots past Lumpkin in season openers

DAHLONEGA — The Jackson County girls basketball team took a 53-39 win over Lumpkin County Tuesday night in both teams' season openers at the Lumpkin County gym.

The Lady Panthers (1-0) led throughtout taking a 12-10 lead after the first quarter and extending the lead to 34-25 by halftime. Lumpkin County (0-1) battled back to within 40-36 heading into the fourth quarter but Jackson County put the game away outscoring the Lady Indians 12-3 in the final period.

Hope Foster paced Lumpkin County with 14 points and Rylie Vaughan added 11 points for the Lady Indians.

Lumpkin County next will play host to Tallulah Falls on Friday.

Jackson County will play host to Madison County on Friday.
