Gainesville's Chris Byrd has known very little except postseason success during his time with the Red Elephants. The standout linebacker/running back was a freshman when the Red Elephants won the Class AAAAA title and has also played a key role in helping Gainesville to deep playoff runs in each of the last three campaigns.
In fact the Red Elephants have reached at least the state quarterfinal round in each of the last four seasons.
Gainesville got its most recent postseason off to a winning start on Friday, knocking off Alexander 25-14 -- a result that set up a second round showdown at top-ranked Stockbridge this week.
With that in mind AccessWDUN sports editor Morgan Lee caught up with Byrd -- who is second on the team in rushing yards with 830 and 7 touchdowns, as well as 174 yards receiving and a TD; he also has a team-high 82 total tackles and 11 tackles for loss -- to talk about the playoffs and what it means to the Red Elephants, as well as this team's expectations on the verge of its biggest game of the campaign.
