Gainesville absentee, early voting to start Monday

GAINESVILLE—Early voting for December 1 runoff elections in the City of Gainesville begins Monday, the same day absentee ballots are to be mailed.

Voters will be choosing the winner of the Ward 3 post, which has been narrowed to retired social worker Barbara Brooks, who garnereed 43.82% of the votes in the first round, and Department of Juvenile Justice employee Andre Cheek, who garnered 27.79%.

To be elected, a candidate is required to win 50% of the votes plus one.

According to an email from Charlotte Sosebee, Hall County Elections Director, no reason is needed for applying for an absentee ballot, though a written application is required, which can be found on the city's website.

The runoff elections, unlike the regular elections, will not feature a Saturday voting period, and early voting runs through November 25.

Voters can cast their ballots on the lower level of the Hall County Government Center, located on Browns Bridge Road, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each weekday. The government offices will be closed on November 26 and 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Sample ballots will be available on the "My Voter Page" website starting Monday as well. Voters can also obtain a sample ballot by mail, or by stopping by the Hall County Government Center.
