Tadmore students learn communication through giving

By AccessWDUN staff

TADMORE - Students at Tadmore Elementary School of Communication don’t need a test score to show that they are proficient when it comes to giving.

While debating in Joan Armour’s Communication class about how historical figures used positive character traits to support their beliefs in liberty, justice, tolerance, and freedom of conscience and expression,  Dara Blalock’s third-grade class birthed an idea of what they would like to do to showcase their beliefs.

Leading the session was Paula Diaz who suggested that the class help others in need. Her suggestion was to collect items to send to a school that had been flooded during the recent hurricane in South Carolina. The class immediately went to work and for several weeks brought items to school to send to a needy class.

Diaz also enlisted the assistance of the school nurse who contacted other school nurses to contribute.

The entire effort was student-led, and after a couple of weeks, the boxes of supplies were ready to ship. The donations included books, school supplies, back packs and a box of supplies for the South Carolina school's clinic donated by nurses from Tadmore Elementary, McEver Elementary, and East Hall Middle School.

The supplies were sent to a third-grade class at Gadsden Elementary in Gadsden, South Carolina. The students also enclosed cards and letters for the students that included questions for the students.

The teachers said that watching students lead such an effort brought to life the statement, “Hall County is the most caring place on earth.”
