Storms raise specter of flooding on Georgia rivers, creeks

ATLANTA (AP) Forecasters are warning of rivers and creeks flooding as the latest round of showers and storms dropped large amounts of rain -- in some cases more than 4 inches.

The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for numerous tributaries in the state. They include the Suwanee, Peachtree and Nancy creeks and the Yellow River in metro Atlanta; the Middle Oconee River in Barrow and Jackson counties; and the Oconee River in Clarke, Greene and Oconee counties.

In southwest Georgia, weather stations by late Sunday night had recorded 4.8 inches of rain in Calhoun County; and 3.7 inches in Baker County.

Forecasters also warned that large amounts of debris such as fallen leaves and small tree limbs could clog drains, adding to the flood concerns.
