State softball: East Jackson stays alive, Union County knocked out in Elite 8

COLUMBUS — East Jackson staved off elimination in the Class AAA girls state softball tournament Friday at the Olympic Softball Complex.

The Lady Eagles stayed alive in the consolation bracket with a 4-3 victory over Region 7-AAA champion Franklin County Friday. The Lady Eagles will take on Central, Carroll Friday at 3 p.m. in another elimination game. 

Union County's season, however, came to an end in the Class AA tournament.

The Lady Panthers fell 9-6 to Seminole County in the consolation bracket. They had dropped their opening round game 12-2 to Gordon Lee on Thursday.

Union County finished a stellar season at 25-9 and as the No. 2 seed from Region 8-AA.
