VIDEO: Logano, Peters score wild Talladega victories

If something unexpected is going to happen at a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, rest assured it will happen at Talladega.

After an initial green-white-checkered restart was waved off due to an accident, Joey Logano was inches ahead of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. on the final green-white-checkered restart when a slow moving Kevin Harvick triggered a multi-car crash, ending the race and giving Logano a sweep of the Contender round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

It took several minutes for NASCAR to finally declare Logano the winner, which denied Earnhardt, Jr. from moving forward in the Chase.  Logano talked afterwards about the momentum he and his Team Penske crew has moving forward into the Eliminator Round of the Chase.

We also heard from winning car owner Roger Penske, as well as second place finisher Earnhardt, Jr.

Atlanta's Brandon Jones was leading on the final restart of Saturday's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, but it was Timothy Peters who pushed to the lead, and was out front when the sixth and final caution came out, giving Peters his first victory of the season.

Peters had started the race on the pole, and was in the right place on the final restart to set himself up for his seventh career series victory.  Peters said his Truck was good from the start of the weekend.  We also heard from Jones afterwards.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series goes from one of it’s fastest tracks to it’s slowest, as the Chase for the Sprint Cup moves to the half-mile, paper clip shaped Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va.  WDUN will have live MRN radio coverage of Sunday’s Goody’s Headache Powders 500 beginning at Noon on 102.9 FM.
