DEMOREST — Stepping out of conference play to host Berea College for Senior Day at Walker Athletic Complex, the Piedmont College men's soccer team shutout the Mountaineers 2-0 with a pair of second half goals on Sunday afternoon.
The two were scoreless after a fairly even first half, but Piedmont took control in the second half outshooting the Mountaineers ten to four down the stretch as Piedmont put six of its 14 shots in the game on target.
The Lions' first goal came on a free kick by Chase Kane who slotted away his 6th goal of the season on the set piece opportunity just at the top of the penalty box. Kane's score handed Piedmont a 1-0 advantage with under 20 minutes to play, but it was a Cristian Alegria score just seconds later that sealed the deal as he found the back of the net to double the lead for the 2-0 win.
Senior goalkeeper Kenneth Hearn picked up the clean sheet in goal on Senior Day as he was honored with three of his classmates just prior to kickoff.
