GAINESVILLE — Oglethorpe County snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 21-16 win over Riverside Military at Maginnis Field Friday night in Region 8-AA action.
The Patriots (1-7, 1-3 Region 8-AA) ran out to a 21-3 halftime lead before the Eagles (1-6, 0-3) mounted a furious second half comeback.
Kaseem Duke scored a third quarter touchdown to cut the lead to 21-10. Riverside then intercepted an Oglethorpe County pass in the end zone to stay within striking distance.
Chandler Jones converted a 4th-and-6 and moments later connected on a 35-yard pass to Javon Thompson to trim the lead to 21-16 with just over four minutes left.
But the Patriots converted a 4th-and-1 with just over a minute left and ran out the clock to preserve the win.
The Eagles will travel to Greene County next week.
