Chief says 'human act' caused Thursday fire near Lula

LULA - Fire destroyed an already-damaged mobile home on Moccasin Gap Road near Lula Thursday night.

Banks County firefighters were called to the doublewide mobile home just off Old Cornelia Highway about 11:10 p.m. That home, already damaged by fire within the past year, was unoccupied and had no utilities.

Banks County Fire Chief Robert Wilkins, who investigated Thursday night's fire, provided basic findings at the scene.

"Preliminary information is that it's going to be a human act," Wilkins said.

Wilkins said it is too early to tell if the fire was accidental or intentional, but said he discovered evidence someone had been staying in the structure very recently.

Thursday night's fire destroyed the mobile home.

Banks County responded with three engines and two med units.

Firefighters remained on scene until about 1:30 a.m.
