ELBERTON — Jackson County gave Elbert County all it could handle on Friday but ultimately fell 20-14 to the Blue Devils in Elberton.
The Panthers (3-4, 0-3 Region 8-AAA) got a touchdown run and a scoring pass from quarterback Jace Latty -- Latty's one-yard run in the third quarter even giving Jackson County a 7-6 lead.
Elbert County took the lead back for good in the fourth quarter, however, scoring with 4:35 remaining for a 14-7 lead that grew to 20-7 with 1:33 left to play. Latty did hit Chase Wester for a touchdown with 12 seconds remaining, but Jackson County could not recover a last-gasp onsides kick.
Jackson County will play host to Hart County next week.
