Presidential 'peanut poll' opens at Georgia National Fair

By Associated Press

PERRY, Ga. (AP) Georgia's first "peanut poll'' opens in Perry at the Georgia National Fair.

The poll opens Thursday at a booth in the Georgia Grown building and continues until the fair closes on Oct. 18.

Mason jars will be provided for each candidate declared as a Republican or a Democrat, with one jar marked undecided. Each person will receive one peanut to place in the candidate's jar of their choice.

Secretary of State Brian Kemp says voters can follow daily tallies on Twitter and Facebook. Kemps says he hopes the poll will become a new tradition.

Georgia's presidential primary is March 1, part of a push to increase Southern states' influence on the campaign.
