Clinton racks up elected Dems in Georgia

By Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton is gathering support from a long list of prominent Georgia Democrats.

Her campaign released a list of backers Wednesday that includes three of Georgia's four Democratic congressmen, the party's floor leaders in the General Assembly, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, state Party Chairman DuBose Porter and 2014 gubernatorial candidate Jason Carter.

Rep. John Lewis said in a statement that Clinton as ``is the most qualified'' candidate. The civil rights hero praised Clinton's ``tireless ... advocacy for those who have been left out and left behind.''

Lewis backed Clinton in 2008 before switching his endorsement to then-Sen. Barack Obama.

Georgia's primary is March 1. It is among several March primaries across the South, setting up the region to play a key role in choosing the nominee.
