DAWSONVILLE — A veteran law enforcement office and Chief of Security at the Hall County Correctional Institute officially announced his candidacy for Sheriff of Dawson County over the weekend.

Frank Sosebee, a 32-year law enforcement veteran, said in a news release he plans to run for the office as a  Republican.

Sosebee began his career at the Hall County Sheriff’s Office in 1983 and rose to the positions of Jailer, Patrol Deputy, Selective Traffic Enforcement Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Tech and Sergeant. Sosebee joined the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office in 1998 and rose through the ranks to Patrol Deputy and Assistant Commander of Detention. In 2013, Sosebee was selected by Warden Walt Davis to become Chief of Security of the Hall County Correctional Institution.

Sosebee graduated from Command College at Columbus State University and will graduate from Reinhardt University in May 2016 with as Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. Sosebee said he plans to continue his education and work toward obtaining his Master's Degree in Public Administration.

"I am the right choice to lead the Sheriff’s Office in a direction geared not only to enforce laws, but to provide safety for our children, citizens, and businesses," said Sosebee in the press statement.

"The issues the Sheriff’s Office will face is the retention of our employees, placing an officer in ALL our schools, forcing on criminal activity, drug trafficking and reentry of those incarcerated. We must build on the future of our department through Community Policing Practices," stated Sosebee.

Current Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle announced earlier this year he will not run for re-election.
