No. 2 UNG women's soccer battles to scoreless draw vs. Armstrong

By AccessWDUN staff

DAHLONEGA — The No. 2-ranked North Georgia women's soccer team could never convert after finding themselves in a several good opportunities on a rainy Saturday afternoon as the Nighthawks ended up with a scoreless draw against rival Armstrong. The draw ends UNG's streak of perfection at seven, now standing at 7-0-1 on the year with a 2-0-1 mark in Peach Belt Conference play.

The steady rain from start-to-finish made it difficult for either team to get many clean touches. The Nighthawks threatened throughout, easily winning the advantage in possession. UNG had six shots on goal in the game, including a first half shot from Jade Pennock that Pirates keeper Morgan Luckie barely got her fingertips on to make the save and keep the game scoreless.

NOTES
- The scoreless tie is the first for North Georgia since Oct. 19, 2013, when the Nighthawks battled the Braves of UNC Pembroke to a 0-0 draw.

- Despite UNG leading the game with 22 shots, Armstrong had the advantage in shots on goal with seven on the day. The last time UNG did not hold the advantage in shots on goal was in the PBC Tournament final against Columbus State, which was ironically a 7-6 advantage for the Cougars.

- Mallory Sayre recorded her 23rd career shutout, her sixth of 2015.

STAT OF THE DAY
1 Inch - The rain that totaled more than an inch today, more than double the amount of the last month combined, had a huge effect on the game giving both teams trouble handling the ball.
