Week 6: Huge matchups on tap as second half of season begins

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

After an exciting Week 5 that featured several upsets and season-saving wins, Week 6 offers some of the best matchups of the season so far area-wide.

Many of the matchups also will weigh heavily with several teams fighting for their playoff lives. Flowery Branch and Winder-Barrow in Region 8-AAAAA, Lumpkin County in Region 7-AAA, North Gwinnett in Rergion 7-AAAAAA, and Jackson County in Region 8-AAA all need wins to stay alive in their respective regions.

Region 7-AAA is in full-swing with two expected front-runners -- West Hall and Lumpkin County -- already a game behind in the standings after upset losses last week. The Indians travel to Franklin County trying to get back in the race while West Hall has the week off. In the biggest game of the night in 7-AAA, Dawson County travels to East Hall in an early battle for first place.

Region 8-AAA has the marquee game of the night as No. 3 Jefferson heads to No. 4 Elbert County. Both teams have been steamrolling the opposition and should put a titanic show for fans as they battle for first place. Click here for a video preview of the contest.
