CARE leader Michelle Nunn to discuss migrant crisis

By Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) CARE President and CEO Michelle Nunn plans to address the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis during a talk in Atlanta.

Nunn, scheduled to speak at the Atlanta Press Club on Thursday, is expected to share insights about the humanitarian needs in Syria and neighboring nations such as Jordan and Turkey.

About 4 million people have fled Syria after more than four years of civil war. Refugee agencies fear the crisis may worsen as winter approaches, and temperatures drop along the route being used by the migrants desperately trying to reach Europe.

CARE, one of the world's largest aid organizations, is an acronym for Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere. Nunn became its president and CEO in July, after an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate in 2014.
