Stowe awarded Jackson chamber's coveted William H. Booth Award

JEFFERSON - Roy Stowe was honored at the Annual Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet recently with the presentation of the William H. Booth Lifetime Achievement Award. <br />

The award, named after one of the founders of both the Jackson Electric Membership Corporation and the Jackson County Chamber, recognizes a life-long distinction in one's professional field and a history of achievement and leadership in service to the Chamber of Commerce and to the Jackson County community through consistent support of community endeavors that enhance the quality of life.<br />

"It did not surprise me that Roy was selected as the recipient of this award," said Josh Fenn, Chamber President/CEO. "Roy is deeply rooted in the business, civic and nonprofit communities in Jackson County and has a history of leadership that many can attest to and appreciate. He sets an example for us all."<br />

Stowe has worked for Jackson Electric Membership Corporation for 30 years, holding the position of Vice President, Marketing and Member Relations for 22 years. <br />
<br />
In 2007, Roy served as chairman of Jackson County Chamber of Commerce's Economic Development Council and in 2008 Chairman of the Jackson County Chamber board of directors. He remains involved with area chambers throughout north Georgia, the Governor's Red Carpet Tour and Southeast US/Japan. He is secretary of the Jefferson Industrial Development Authority and treasure of the Jefferson City School Foundation. He has also been Board Chairman of the Jackson County Habitat for Humanity and Chairman of the board and board member for the Boys and Girls Club. He served on the clubs' successful 2013 capital campaign to build a new Jefferson facility and is serving on the current capital campaign to raise funds for a new Commerce club.<br />

The other award winners honored included: Carmen Poblet, Owner of Art Design Promotions won Ambassador of the Year; Mark Valentine, General Manager of Tanger Outlets won Volunteer of the Year; and Andy Garrison, Owner of The Garrison Company was awarded Citizen of the Year. The Small Business of the Year Award was presented to Martha Martin for Phil-Mart Transportation, while The Large Business of the Year Award winner was awarded to Southeast Toyota Distributors. Prior to the dinner, guests at the Boots and Bling themed event enjoyed drinks in the reception as well as pictures with an old west setting.
