Huge run propels Lady Nighthawks past Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, ALABAMA -- Cierra Jackson led three Nighthawks in double figures as the University of North Georgia women's basketball team ran away from Montevallo, 77-51, in Peach Belt Conference action on Wednesday evening at UM's Trustmark Arena. <br /> <br /> The Nighthawks put the game out of reach with a decisive 24-0 run late in the second half, improving to 16-4 overall and 8-3 in league play with their fourth consecutive win.<br /> <br /> With the game tied a 26 apiece, North Georgia used a 7-0 run over the final three minutes of the half to take a 33-36 lead into intermission.<br /> <br /> Leading by just nine, 51-42, with 9:50 left in the game, North Georgia iced the game scoring 24 unanswered points as the lead ballooned up to a game-high 33 points (75-42).<br /> <br /> Jackson connected on six-of-nine three-point attempts and added six rebounds and five assists. Stephanie Huffman added 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists.<br /> <br /> Lauren Pound came off the bench to add 11 points.<br /> <br /> The Nighthawks assisted on 21 of their 26 field goals and won the battle of the boards with Falcons, 41-35.<br /> <br /> Montevallo (1-17, 0-11 PBC) was led by Carrington Caise's 15 points.<br /> <br /> North Georgia returns to Memorial Hall to take on Lander, ranked No. 20 in the latest D2SIDA NCAA Division II poll, on Saturday (Jan. 31) at 1:30 p.m. as part of UNG Homecoming festivities. The game the first of a three-game home set for the Nighthawks.
