GAINESVILLE - One person was flown to an Atlanta burn unit Thursday evening after suffering moderate injuries in an East Hall house fire.

The initial call came in around 5:30 p.m. alerting Hall County firefighters to a fire in the 2800-block of Six Gun Trail, according to Fire Marshal Scott Cagle.

Cagle said that upon arrival, crews discovered a 1,200-square-foot residence showing heavy smoke. Working quickly, firefighters were able to knock down the flames and extinguish the fire.

A preliminary investigation showed that the fire originated in the kitchen area of the home, apparently the result of unattended cooking.

An unnamed male resident, who Cagle said was the only occupant of the home, suffered moderate burns when he attempted to move the burning items before the firefighter's arrival. That resident, who was said to be alert and conscious, was later flown to Grady Hospital for treatment.

Cagle said that the home, which was estimated to have a value of $75,000, suffered roughly $25,000 in damages as a result of the fire.
