Maintenance shop at LaPrade's Marina burns

By Staff
CLARKESVILLE - It took Rabun County firefighters from four stations several hours to extinguish a fire at the maintenance shop at LaPrade's Marina on Lake Burton Wednesday.

Rabun County Fire Chief Daniel Johnson said the call was received just before noon and crews from Station 10 (Lakes), 11 (Wildcat, 12 (Tiger) and 3 (Tallulah Persimmon) responded, along with Rabun County EMS and Rabun County Sheriff's Office.

Georgia Highway 197 had to be closed for a time due to smoke from the fire.

In addition to the shop, it's pontoon boat and at least one other boat were heavy damaged.

Because of the lowered lake level, the Lake Burton fire boat was unable to maneuver close enough to be effective.

Instead, a fire engine from Tiger pulled down the boat ramp and pumped water from the lake to supply other trucks on scene.

No one was hurt, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by state and local authorities.
