Boys basketball: Knights roll past White Co., stay perfect in 8-AAAA

CLEVELAND -- Class AAAA No. 2-ranked Johnson used a 27-14 second to take control and held off White County 73-60 Friday night in Region 8-AAAA action.<br />

The Knights (17-0, 3-0 Region 8-AAAA) led just 15-11 after the opening period but would take a 42-25 lead into halftime.<br />
<br />
White County (10-7, 1-2) outscored Johnson 35-31 in the second half but it wasn't enough.<br />
<br />
The win completed a tough two-game road trip for Johnson, who knocked two of the top contenders for the region title in consecutive games. They beat Buford on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
Ty Cockfield paced Johnson with a game-high 34 points. The senior guard was coming off a career-high 42 in the win over Buford. Roderick English added 19 points and seven rebounds and Andrew Sims had six points to go with 13 rebounds. <br />
<br />
White County was led by Whit Mauney with 20 points. Bradley Hurst added 18 points for the Warriors, who have dropped two straight after a five-game winning streak.<br />
<br />
White County will travel to Lumpkin County on Saturday in a non-region battle. Johnson will play host to Class AAAAA Apalachee on Saturday.
