ROME, Ga. (AP) -- A sheriff's department in northwest Georgia is planning to outfit deputies with small wearable cameras.
Chief Deputy of the Floyd County Sheriff's Office Tom Caldwell tells the Rome News-Tribune ( http://bit.ly/1oodaRf ) the department recently ordered the cameras and 20 of the department's deputies are expected to use them.
Caldwell says the department began exploring the idea in February and deputies serving warrants will test the equipment.
Sheriff Tim Burkhalter says the cameras will improve safety for deputies and the public. Caldwell says he hopes the cameras improve the behavior of deputies and the citizens they interact with.
