UGA closer to building indoor football field

By The Associated Press
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- The University of Georgia is one step closer to building an indoor football practice field.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/1tEmgPw ) the board of the UGA Athletic Association voted Friday to pay $400,000 to hire an architectural firm to design and find a place for the building. The association is a non-profit corporation that runs the school's intercollegiate athletic programs.

The firm could report back to UGA as soon as February, UGA Athletic Director Greg McGarity said. UGA is one of just two Southeastern Conference schools that doesn't have an indoor practice facility, he said. Other teams, including baseball and track, will also be able to use the facility.

The board also approved two increases in football ticket prices - from $40 to $45 in 2015, and $5 more to $50 in 2017. Tickets for the annual Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville will rise by $10 to $70 at the regular level and $110 at club level.

The price of faculty tickets will go up by $2.50 in each of those years, to $22.50 and then $25. Ticket prices remain at $8 for UGA students.

UGA hasn't raised football prices since 2008 and its prices are lower than most SEC schools, according to a chart McGarity handed out.
