OAKWOOD - A 50 percent hike in property taxes is on the table in Oakwood and city officials have planned three public hearings on the proposal.

City Manager Stan Brown confirmed Friday that the new rate would be four mills, up from the current 2.658 mills and would be effective New Year's Day.

Brown says the tax increase is needed to fund maintenance of the city's equipment and infrastructure.
The public hearings will be held at 4:00 on Sept. 22 and Oct. 6 and at 6:00 Oct. 13 at city hall.
