I've been rediscovering an old friend this year. Books.

I've always enjoyed reading books but until recently just didn't think I had time to do it on a regular basis. Oh, I read one or two, maybe, over a one or two year period if someone gave me one or if I found one of interest that Sandra had ordered when she was a member of a book club.

But, until this year I had not been a regular book reader in forever.

It all began toward the end of last year when we decided to drop the subscriptions to two or three magazines that we had long been getting, leading me to vow to get back to book reading.

Reading was one of my favorite subjects in school and I even enjoyed doing book reports, especially when the teacher told us we could do one on a book of our choice.

By now I have read about six books this year. Everything from a very detailed account of the search for Olympic Park bomber Eric Robert Rudolph to one of John Grishman's latest books to an inside look at the Seal Team Six raid that killed Osama bin Laden and a no-holds-barred biography of the late New York Yankee slugger Mickey Mantle.

All but one of the books I have read I have gotten from the Hall County Library. Going to the library is something I look forward to every two-to-four weeks, depending on how long it takes me to read the one book I check out at a time.

There, again, I couldn't remember the last time I had gone into a library to check out a book. But they welcomed this back-slider with open arms and quickly reactivated my account - and I've been hooked ever since.

Wish I could just have the same kind of luck as I try to rediscover another old friend. Fishing. So far, not so good with that, but I plan to keep trying. I'll keep you posted. It's bad with your 6-year-old grandson is better at it than you are.

Now, what did I do with my book?
