GAINESVILLE - Georgia DOT plans to pour the last caisson Thursday for the new State Route 284/Clarks Bridge Road bridge north of Gainesville.
Officials say a lane closure will be necessary for the pouring of the twelfth caisson. The northbound lane across the bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.
Meanwhile, the road is closed to all traffic just north of the nearby rowing venue because of work on a pedestrian tunnel under the roadway. The road was closed Tuesday for this work and is expected to remain closed until July 26 and marked detours are in place.
"We are monitoring traffic flow at each signalized intersection along the detour route and will make changes to the signal timings over the next week as motorists get used to the detour. Usually the first week of a detour is a learning curve then backups dissipate as people choose their personal detour route," explained Bayne Smith, Georgia DOT District Engineer.
