GAINESVILLE - The race was a tight one, but in the end Chestnut Mountain businesswoman Kathy Cooper emerged the winner in the race for Hall County Commission Post, District 1.
Cooper finished just 129 votes ahead of Ken Cochran to claim the seat being vacated by Craig Lutz. Lutz left the county commission to run for a seat on the State Public Service Commission; he finished third in the race.
Cooper has no Democratic opposition for the commission post in the November General Election.
